The Sacramento River Cats sealed their place among the great teams in Minor League Baseball history by winning their second consecutive Bricktown Showdown Championship. The River Cats defeated Salt Lake and Oklahoma on their way to the big game, destined to square off against IL Champion Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, who dispatched Pawtucket and Durham en route to the franchise's first Governors' Cup title. Sacramento struck quickly, scoring three times in the 1st inning off of Yankees starter Ian Kennedy. Wes Bankston and Brooks Conrad singled home runs before Casey Rogowski added a RBI ground out to make it 3-0 just like that. Days earlier the Yankees scored 20 runs in their clinching victory, but their mighty offense was stymied first by starter Brad Knox and then by Chris Gissell, who fanned four in three shutout innings on his way to the Bobby Murcer Most Valuable Player Award. Donnie Murphy doubled home another run in the 6th, giving the River Cats a comfortable 4-0 advantage. Ramiro Pena got the Yankees on the board in the 7th with a RBI single, but Brad Kilby and Bret Prinz shut the door after that to seal another Triple-A championship for Sacramento and for the Oakland organization.

The 2007 Bricktown Showdown was a matchup of two of baseball's best organizations when it comes to developing talent. The Richmond Braves, longtime Triple-A partner of the Atlanta Braves, won the IL's Governors' Cup by beating Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Durham in the postseason. The Sacramento River Cats won the PCL Championship by going through Salt Lake and New Orleans, giving the Oakland organization its 6th PCL title in the last 12 years. Sacramento's starter, Shane Komine, had to leave the game in the 2nd with a sore shoulder, but his teammates picked him up in a big way. In the top of the 3rd, Richmond's Blaine Boyer issued a walk to Danny Putnam followed by a single off the bat of Nick Blasi. That brought up Lou Merloni, who crushed a three-run homer over the left field wall to make it 3-0. For Merloni, the blast was his fourth of the 2007 postseason after hitting just three long balls all year. Later that inning Brant Colamarino added a two-run blast, and suddenly it was 5-0 in favor of the River Cats. Merloni drove home his fourth run with a single in the 6th. Richmond made its first true threat in the 7th, but the rally produced only one run by Brandon Jones who scored on a double play. Colamarino singled home one more for Sacramento in the 9th, putting the finishing touches on a 7-1 victory. Merloni, the team captain, was named the game's MVP. Righty Kaz Tadano, who pitched 4.1 innings in relief of Komine, got the win.

Minor League Baseball's winningest team in 2006 was the Tucson Sidewinders, champions of the Pacific Coast League after posting a 91-53 regular season mark and beating both Salt Lake and Round Rock in the postseason. Tucson advanced to the first ever Bricktown Showdown to face the two-time International League champion Toledo Mud Hens, who had powered their way past Indianapolis, Charlotte, and Rochester to win the 2006 Governors' Cup. Tucson, designated as the visitors because the IL beat the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game, struck quickly. Donnie Sadler led off the game with a triple, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott Hairston. Tucson clung to a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the 4th, when catcher Max St-Pierre singled home Ryan Raburn to even the score. In the 5th, Tucson answered when Juan Brito slammed the game's only homer, a solo shot that gave the Sidewinders a 2-1 edge. The score remained 2-1 until the 9th, when Tucson finally broke things open by scoring three times off of the Mud Hens. Matt Erickson singled in two runs, and Sadler added an RBI single of his own to make it 5-1. With the tying run on deck in the bottom of the 9th, Toledo's Dustan Mohr lined to 1B Robby Hammock to end the game and give manager Chip Hale's Sidewinders the first Bricktown Showdown Championship. Hairston, 2-4 with an RBI, was named the game's MVP. Starter Micah Owings went 5.0 innings for Tucson, earning the victory.
